Would ya like to hear what my hubby is up to??

Hey everyone!  Wow, so much time has passed since I have written anything...I go through times of feeling like I really don't know why I keep a blog, since I  am definitely not a writer..and barely a passable "blogger".  But, I love reading your posts, friends..and so I promise to attempt to put up something meaningful or nonsensical from time to time.    This post is an exerpt from an email my hubby Andy sent recently.  Please, read up if you have a moment.    Click on the links if you'd like to get a small glimpse into my husbands interesting upbringing as an "MK" raised in Argentina!

Dear family and friends,

Some of you might be aware that an opportunity has come up for me to go with my Dad and Bryson (my 9 year old nephew) on a short term mission to Argentina.  Our goal is to work in the orphanage that my parents started 47 years ago in Cruz Chica, a suburb of La Cumbre in the province of Córdoba.  The background picture is a view of the orphanage from the top of the mountain ( also check out this beautiful town at:  http://www.argentinaturistica.com/2lcuiresenia.htm ).

A little bit over a month ago my Dad (who is now 75 years young) mentioned to me that he was wanting to build a playground at the orphanage, similar to the one he had built for his grand kids at their home in Canada.  He told me he was planning to leave on October the 6th and spend three weeks, working on this project as well as anything else that needs to be done.

He also mentioned that both him and Mom were wondering if I would consider going with him to help him built it.  Naturally, my thought was I would love to do it, but I can't afford to take that time off workplus I don't even have a passport.  Right away my wife said it would be great if you could do this,  but do you think we can pull this off?   I said I don't know, I guess if it's God's will it can happen.

I told Dad and Mom we would pray about it, as well as start the process of getting my passport.  A few days later found out that my airline tickets, would be taken care of.  What an encouraging answer to prayer!   I applied for my passport, and 8 days later it was issued.  All that is left is for the Lord to provide $1800.00 to cover my loss of income if I am to stay all three weeks, and any additional funds we would need to cover the cost of material for our project.

God has begun to provide some of the necessary funds through the generous gifts of some friends and family, and others that have pledged support, but time is drawing near with our departure date being only a week away.

My request to you, is that you would pray for us.  If it's God's will for me to do this trip that He would provide the funds necessary, for however long He would want for me to go.  I put together a video presentation, as a tribute to my parents, that gives a bit of the history of the home, from it's inception until now.  Peter Rust has been kind enough to host it on the Teens for Christ web site at:  http://www.tfcnw.org/Andy-Powell-Argentina.html  It embeds the Quicktime plugin to stream the video while playing it and requires quicktime 6+ (the latest is version 7).  When you check out the video clip, I encourage you to take a look at the "Teens for Christ" web site,  by clicking on the home page or where it says "about TFC".  I have been involved with that ministry for over 10 years, God is doing a great work under the direction of Peter and Jessica Rust, along with his staff of college age and adult volunteers. Please pray for them and for the ministry.

Thank you so much for your prayers!  God bless you.

Andy

*Bev's update:  it looks as of today that we have the $1800. needed to cover for Andy's time off from work!  WooHOO!!  Any additional funds received will go directly to the orphanage.  We are so excited!*

"We need not be ashamed that our hearts ache; that we need and thirst and hunger for much more.  All of our hearts ache.  All of our hearts are at some level unsatisfied and longing.  It is our insatiable need for more that drives us to our God.  What we need to see is that all our controlling and our hiding, all our indulging, actually serves to separate us from our hearts.  We lose touch with those longings that make us women.  And the substitutes never, ever resolve the deeper issue of our souls."
